Wartsila Aquarius Ballast Water Management System Submits USCG Type Certification

- Apr 02, 2018-

After successfully completing all required test procedures, Wärtsilä has submitted its Aquarius Electro-Chlorination ballast water management system (BWMS) to the US Coast Guard (USCG) for type certification.

The Wärtsilä electrolytic chlorination system passed the type approval of the International Maritime Organization in 2013. This successful design is also used to submit the USCG form certification. This test once again proved the stability of the Wärtsilä solution and demonstrated the high reliability, robustness and effectiveness of the system.glenflange

Wen Thomas, head of the Wärtsilä ballast water management system, said, “Completing this important USCG test milestone is a major step forward for the product. It provides further assurance to customers that the system can effectively meet the requirements of ballast water treatment compliance. In response to this demand, Wärtsilä not only provides reliable products, but also is committed to becoming a long-term global support partner for customers."

Wärtsilä Aquarius EC BWMS uses proven filtration and electrolytic chlorination technology while maintaining a high degree of safety, operability and reliability. The system meets regulatory requirements in all water quality conditions. Safety has always been an important consideration in design, and a hazard analysis designed to eliminate the risks of installation and operation has also been carried out during the R&D process. The Wärtsilä ballast water management system is supported by the Wärtsilä Global Service Network.pipe cap

Wärtsilä also offers BWMS using filtration and ultraviolet (UV). The Wärtsilä Aquarius UV system has passed the type certification of the International Maritime Organization and is certified by the US Coast Guard (USCG). The system is now undergoing a full USCG formal certification test and is expected to be completed by 2018. Wärtsilä Aquarius UV has also been certified for explosion-proof (EX) installation. slip on flange
