According to the US Coast Guard, the owner of the tanker “Tofteviken” was Viken Shipping of Norway and was built in 2005. At the time of the accident, the "Tofteviken" wheel was heading to New York, and the Polaris was returning to its home port in Massachusetts after completing a night of fishing.
The Coast Guard stated that the "Polaris" mast and outrigger were damaged but the ship managed to return safely to the home port.
