Hong Kong ship owner Seaspan recently announced that it has acquired two 2,500 TEU container ships and has signed a tenancy agreement with Danish shipping company Maersk Line.
Seaspan said it had received one of the container ships built in 2006 on February 5 and the other is expected to be delivered by the end of February.
The company said the tenancy agreement was for a period of four years and the tenancy agreement could be renewed for a maximum of two years. The rental price will continue to increase.
Bing Chen, president and chief executive of Seaspan, said the company is still committed to delivering best-in-class solutions and expanding value-added service offerings. The company will continue to seize the growth opportunities currently on the market to consolidate its industry-leading position.
Upon completion of receiving two container ships, Seaspan will operate a fleet of 112 new vessels (including new ones under construction), of which 18 are owned by the company.
