"Maersk Shanghai" encounter a storm and missing 70 containers
According to foreign media reports, on the evening of March 3, 10000TEU container ship Maersk Shanghai sailed to Oregon, North Carolina about 17 nautical miles away due to the impact of the stormy weather, about 70 containers fell into the water from the ship.
The United States Coast Guard said the crew of the Liberian Trans Panamax container ship "Maersk Shanghai" (built in 2016) informed North Carolina Command Center duty officers that about 70-73 containers were lost due to strong winds and waves.
The Coast Guard added that these containers dropped into the water pose a navigational risk and urged all crew members to carefully transit the area.
Ship AIS data shows that at the time of the incident, the “Maersk Shanghai” was moving from Norfolk to Charleston. The vessel is operated by Zodiac Maritime and deployed on the 2M + HMM Asia-US East Coast service.
