GE's two LM2500 marine gas turbines are currently powering the JS Ashai, the latest destroyer of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF).

It is reported that the "JS Ashai" is the first of two Asahi-class destroyers built by the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Nagasaki Shipyard. The second destroyer "JS Shiranui" was launched at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in October 2017 and is expected to conduct a sea trial later in 2018.

In fact, in addition to the aforementioned destroyers, the Japanese Marine Self-Defense Force's Izumo, Kongou, Murasame, Atago and Hyuga class ships all use the LM2500 steam turbine. glenflange
